Tapestry Online Search

Tapestry is an Internet access program designed for the occasional user who has some understanding of real estate documents. Tapestry offers access to real estate documents recorded in Dane County and other counties in the Midwest. Fees are assessed to pay for support and maintenance of the system. However, if Tapestry is confusing for you, please visit the office of your local register of deeds and get assistance to locate your documents.

Search Tips

When you first access Tapestry you will see the homepage. Click on the green "Search Now" button to search. You will now see a page showing the states with counties connected to Tapestry. Here are more hints for getting the most out of the program:

  • Be sure to select a county. If your desired Wisconsin county is not on the list, contact that particular register of deeds at this website to see if they offer an alternative to Tapestry. Once you select a county you'll see the search and image fees associated with that county.
  • Take care to set up your search accurately. Correct spelling of last name is a must, but you do not need to type in the entire first name. If you are not certain if the first name is Janet or Jane, just type JAN in the first name field. Do not use middle initials.
  • If Tapestry is unable to perform the search, or if your search yields no records, it will tell you so and you will not be charged.
  • Once you get a list of documents, you can double click each listing and then select document details at no extra charge.
  • Once you get a list of documents, you can double click each listing and then select document images at an extra charge. All plats and certified survey maps have been scanned and the images are available in Tapestry.
  • Your running total of Tapestry expenses is listed at the top of most screens.

Disclaimer

Errors and Omissions
This is a working index and may contain errors and omissions due to errors in the preparation of the original document or in the indexing. It is recommended to search several different ways for each property, such as by both a “quick search” (party name), and an “advanced search,” (combination of legal description and other pertinent information).

Images
The images are authentic reproductions of the actual document and the quality is usually good. However, blue or light-colored ink used on original documents will not reproduce well. A few older documents may be illegible since there was no requirement for legibility until 1997.
